The 12th ITTF Sports Science Congress in Rotterdam gathered experts interested in the application of scientific principles to table tennis. Attendees included sports scientists, researchers, coaches, therapists, and professionals engaged in racket sports, highlighting the event’s focus on sharing insights across disciplines.
The congress took place alongside the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships, which carried the theme Join the Table. The Sports Science Congress reflected this spirit by encouraging collaboration across different sports, aiming to promote knowledge exchange beyond table tennis.
Themes and Focus
The congress centered on individual motor skills and ActionTypes®, while subthemes addressed broader topics such as inclusive sports participation, talent identification and development, innovations in equipment, training and coaching, and medical considerations in sport. The sessions were structured to cover both practical and research-oriented perspectives.
Program and Participation
Submitted abstracts underwent a peer-review process, and selected authors were notified on 17 February. The finalized program included four keynote lectures, 13 oral presentations, and 39 poster sessions. A mailing with detailed information was reported to have been sent to all participants on 9 March.
Registration and Attendance
Interested participants were advised to contact Ineke de Graaf for registration and attendance details. The congress provided a platform for knowledge exchange and discussion among the table tennis and broader racket sports community.
